Shoot will run Nov 4-Dec 21 in Denmark.
Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will star in Danish director Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, which will shoot from this week (November 4) in Denmark.
It is Mikkelsen’s second lead role in Danish cinema this year, after Nikolaj Arcel’s 18th century drama, A Royal Affair, about the romance between the Danish Queen and the King’s German physician-in-ordinary (Alicia Vikander). He is on the current cinema repertoire in US director Paul WS Anderson’s The Three Musketeers.
For The Hunter Vinterberg reteams with scriptwriter Tobias Lindholm (with whom he penned his latest, Submarino) to tell the story of a 40-year-old man in a small provincial community, who has finally recovered from a tough divorce, when a five-year-old kindergartener drops a remark that accuses him of abusing her.
The $3.8 million production, which is backed by $1.4 million from the Danish Film Institute and last month (October) received $425,000 Eurimages support, will be produced by Morten Kaufmann (Submarino) and Sisse Graum Jørgensen (Susanne Bier’s In A Better World) for Zentropa Entertainments, with Zentropa Sweden and Sweden’s Film i Väst.
Co-starring Susse Wold, Thomas Bo Larsen, Lars Ranthe and Anne Louise Hassing, The Hunter will be domestically released by Nordisk Film Distribution late 2012. Danish international sales agency TrustNordisk will launch the title at this week’s American Film Market.
The film, budgeted at Euros 2.7m, will be released domestically at the end of 2012 by Nordisk.
The film is also supported by the Danish Film Institute, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, Zentropa International Sweden, Film i Vast, Swedish Film Institute, Swedish Television, Nordic Film & TV Fund, Eurimages, and the MEDIA programme.
