Bankside rocks with David Mackenzie's romcom You Instead

The Scottish director makes a departure from his previous gritty fare for a romantic comedy about rival rock stars.

Luke Treadaway and Natalia Tena star as an American pop star and British rock chick who find themselves accidentally handcuffed together.

The film was shot on location at Scotland’s T in the Park music festival this summer. Bankside has a promo to show buyers here at the AFM; the film is still in post and expected to launch at a major festival in the first half of 2011.

Gillian Berrie of Sigma films produced; executive producers are Berlin‐based Malte Grunert of Amusement Park Films, Jamie Laurenson for BBC Films, Robbie Allen for Creative Scotland, Phil Hunt and Compton Ross for Bankside Films and Geoff Ellis for DF Concerts.

Here at the AFM, Bankside is also presenting promo reels for Famke Janssen’s directorial debut Bringing Up Bobby starring Milla Jovovich , Spencer List, Marcia Cross and Bill Pullman (in post); Istvan Szabo’s The Door starring star Helen Mirren and Martina Gedeck (now in production); and Matthew Parkhill’s The Caller (in final stages of post), a supernatural ghost story starring Rachelle Lefevre, Luiz Gusman and Stephen Moyer.

For Bringing Up Bobby, Bankside handles international rights with CAA representing North America. Sofia Sondervan‐Bild produces for Dutch Tilt and San Fu Maltha co-produces.

For The Door, producers are Jeno Habermann of FilmArt Studio and Sandor Soeth of Berlin’s Intuit Pictures. Executive producers include Marco Mehlitz of Berlin’s Lago Film.

Bankside’s slate also includes the first project from its new development-first look deal with New York stalwarts Killer Films. Hilary Brougher wrote and will direct Innocence, a contemporary gothic vampire story set at a private school, with a cast including Julianne Moore.
