AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival has revealed the line-up for three of the five sections in this year’s event, which runs June 21-27 in the Washington DC area.

The 11 films in the festival’s Sterling US Feature Competition section will include world premieres of Henry Corra’s The Disappearance of McKinley Nolan, Stephen Marshall’s Holy Wars and Francine Cavanaugh and Adams Wood’s On Coal River, as well as the US premiere of Kaleo La Belle’s Beyond This Place.

The Sterling World Feature Competition section will take in another 11 films, giving a North American premiere to Claudine Bories and Patrice Chagnard’s The Arrivals (pictured) and US premieres to Mikael Wistrom and Alberto Herskovits’ Familia, Joonas Berghall and Mika Hotakeinen’s Steam of Life and Vadim Jeydrenko’s The Woman With The Five Elephants.

Forty-one films - including entries from Germany/North Korea, Ireland, Scotland, the UK, Spain, France, Russia and Italy, as well as the US and Canada - will screen in the Sterling Short Competition. (Full listings for all three sections are available on the festival web site.)

The festival will also feature a retrospective of films by Guggenheim honoree Frederick Wiseman and a special Peacebuilding On Screen strand organized in collaboration with the United States Institute of Peace.

Still to be announced are titles in the festival’s Silver Spectrum and Spotlight programs.

Commenting on the record 2,163 submissions received for this year’s event, Silverdocs artistic director Sky Sitney said: “This year we received more high-quality submissions than ever before, making it harder than ever to select the films for the 2010 program. This Festival slate represents the very best the documentary form has to offer, covering a wide range of issues and voices, and focusing on cinematic excellence.”
