EXCLUSIVE: Movie Mogul’s supernatural thriller to become the first UK film to use fundraising method provides backers with an actual return on their investment.
UK production company Movie Mogul have announced that their new project The Sleeping Room will use equity crowdfunding.
Written by Ross Jameson, The Sleeping Room is set in present day Brighton, and centres on a call girl who falls for a client who reveals himself to be more than first meets the eye.
The supernatural thriller is the first UK film to utilise equity crowdfunding, which will see backers receive a share of equity in the production. Movie Mogul will use Seedrs.com in a bid to raise £25,000 towards post-production.
Director John Shackleton said: “It’s very exciting to be at the forefront of this new wave of fundraising for films, and it’s great to be able to offer actual equity to our supporters.
“Now almost anybody can be a film investor, and so it’s only right that our backers should share in any financial success that stems from our production.”
The Sleeping Room will be produced by Gareth I Davies and is set to shoot in Dec 2013 on locations in and around Brighton. It will star Leila Mimmack and Julie Graham, most recently seen in Tower Block.
Full production details will be announced shortly.
Kaleidoscope recently boarded sales on Movie Mogul’s sci-fi We Are Monsters, starring Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams.
