Korea’s Showbox/Mediaplex has clinched a pre-sale on action thriller Hwayi, which has gone to Wild Side Films for French-speaking Europe.
Directed by Jang Joon-hwan, the film is about a boy raised by five criminals who discovers the truth behind his mysterious past after being involved in a contract killing. Kim Yun-seok heads the cast of the film which is scheduled for release in Korea this autumn.
Wild Side president Manuel Chiche said he acquired the film based on the strength of the director’s acclaimed 2003 debut Save The Green Planet, the casting and the subject matter.
Showbox has also concluded further deals on North Korean assassin thriller Commitment, which has gone to Avex Entertainment for Japan, Vietnam Media Corp for Vietnam and PT Prima Cinema Multimedia for Indonesia.
Starring K-pop star Choi Seung-hyun, the film previously sold to Well Go USA for North America and Splendid for Germany. It is scheduled for release across Asia starting with Korea this autumn.
