Taiwan’s Leon Dai, French filmmaker Lorenzo Recio and Israel’s Micha Kinsbruner are among the filmmakers who have had projects selected for the third edition of the Taipei Golden Horse’s co-production market.

A total of 25 projects have been selected for the three-day Film and TV Film Production Promotion (Nov 24-26), which runs during the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. FTPP will give out a premier award of $30,400, as well as six post-production service awards provided by six Taiwanese post-production houses.

The project market aims to promote Chinese-language film projects regardless of the nationality of filmmakers. This year’s selection includes Kinsbruner’s Mama, Huhu, a careful observation of the lives of Chinese immigrants in Israel, and Recio’s In The Shadow Man, which uses Taiwan as the backdrop for his fantasy about a man gradually turning into a shadow. 

The line-up also includes several projects utilising 3D or other new technology: Taiwanese filmmakers Yao Hung–I and Liang Ching-sheng’s drama Illumination will be shot in 3D; Singaporean director Jack Neo’s Granny Neo will be a 3D animation feature, and Lien Yi-chi plans to shoot Make Up entirely on the most advanced Arriflex D-21 cameras.

Leon Dai’s entry for FTPP, Sky Silence, is a story about an aviation pilot, while 28-year-old filmmaker John Hsu’s Shuffle is a superhero story. Apart from the Taiwanese filmmakers, mainland filmmakers such as Guan Hu, Zhao Ye and Pan Baochang have also had their projects selected for FTPP.

The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival will be held Nov 6-Nov 28, with FTPP running Nov 24-26, and ahe Golden Horse Awards taking place on Nov 28 in Taipei County.
