Hur Jin-ho picked up the Best Director award for his melodrama Happiness which portrays a love story between two terminally ill patients, starring Lim Soo-jun and Hwang Jung-min.
Jeon Do-yeon took Best Actress for her performance in Secret Sunshine, building on the same honours she won in Cannes and the recent Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
Hospital thriller Epitaph took two awards - Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography, as did Paradise Murdered - for Best Screenplay and Best New Director, both for Kim Han-min; and The Happy Life - for Best Supporting Actor and Best Music Direction. (See full list below.)
The Blue Dragons, which rival the Grand Bells as Korea's top awards for film, saw a star-studded turn-out from the local industry while director/producer Lee Chang-dong notably withheld his film Secret Sunshine from categories outside best performance in protest against the awards' sponsor, newspaper Sports Chosun, sister publication to the right-wing paper Chosun Ilbo.
