British and French animated shorts make up almost two-thirds of the 25 European films vying to be shortlisted for the nominations for this year's Cartoon D'Or.
Among the films being considered by a jury composed of CARTOON's Corinne Jenart, the UK's Mark Baker, Denmark's Jannik Hastrup and Spain's Antonion Zurera Aragon, are 16 British and French shorts.
These include Ignacio Ferreras' How To Cope With Death, Zoia Trofimova's Le Trop Petit Prince, (pictured) Dave Unwin's War Game, Camille Henrot's Histoire De Cesaria, and Suzie Templeton's Dog. In addition, the jury will be considering animated shorts from Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden
The 25 films competing for the shortlist of five titles have all won prizes at the Cartoon D'Or partner festivals of I Castelli Animati in Genzano di Roma, Cinanima in Portugal's Espinho, the Holland Animation Film Festival in Utrecht, Anima 2003 in Brussels, the Bristol Animation Film Festival "Animated Encounters", the Nordic and Baltic Animation Festival in Norway's Fredrikstad, and Annecy's Festival International du Film d'Animation.
The five nominees for the Cartoon D'Or will be announced on June 26 and the eventual winner will be made known during the closing ceremony of this year's CARTOON Forum financing market which is being held in Varese in Italy on September 20.
