The sixth edition of the Spanish Film Screenings event in Madrid will feature some of the hottest new local titles, including Mateo Gil’s western Blackthorn and Daniel Sanchez Arevalo’s comedy Cousinhood.

The Madrid De Cine Spanish Film Screenings event, which will take place June 19-21, has become a popular market for international buyers post Cannes who are looking for the latest hot Spanish projects.

This year there will be 19 titles on offer, including Blackthorn, starring Sam Shepard and Eduardo Noriega, which has already sold to Magnolia for the US and Vertice Cine in Spain through 6 Sales, and Cousinhood, which is being sold by Film Factory and has already made $5m in Spain through Warner Bros.

Other notable titles include Enrique Irbizu’s thriller No Rest For The Wicked, which is being sold by Filmax and has been picked up by Warner Bros for Spain; Iciar Bollain’s drama Even The Rain, starring Gael Garcia Bernal, which is being sold by Wild Bunch and took $5m in Spain; and Santiago Segura’s runaway comedy hit Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis, which has taken $29m in Spain through Warner Bros, and is being sold by FilmSharks.

High-profile attendees at the event over the years have included Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, Wild Bunch and Aurum, alongside smaller indie outfits like Axiom Films, Only Hearts and Venevision.
