Films by Jan Švankmajer, Carlos Reygadas, Alex van Warmerdam, Andrei Zvyagintsev and Sergei Loznitza are amongst the 33 projects to have been selected for Rotterdam’s co-production market Cinemart (Jan 30-Feb 2).

The films, chosen from 434 entries, will be presented to around 850 co-financiers at the event, which is part of the Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR), and is now in its 28th edition.

The selection includes Pedro Gonzalez Rubio’s film project Tree Shade, Bull Down! by Gabriel Mascaro (Brazil/Uruguay) and Karma Police by Visra Vichit-Vadakan (Thailand), all of which have received backing from the IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund.

CineMart manager Marit van den Elshout said of the 2011 selection:  ”It’s always an interesting challenge to create a balanced selection that combines new work from established directors with first features by new talent from such a large number of often striking entries. This year, we are very pleased to present a large number of second and third film projects from ascendant filmmakers.”
