3D Entertainment has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the prehistoric adventure Sea Rex 3D directed and written by Pascal Vuong and Ronan Chapalain.

3D Entertainment is also co-producing the 40-minute film with Paris-based N3D LAND Productions, which initiated the project four years ago.

The film is scheduled to play in 3D and 2D at IMAX Theatres and will launch in the US in spring 2010.

Through a combination of CGI animation and real seascapes, the film recreates photorealistic scenes of life during the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.

“Thanks to the latest paleontological research and state-of-the-art computer generated images, Sea Rex 3D takes audiences on an extraordinary voyage two hundred million years back in time for an exhilarating encounter with the T-Rex of the seas on the world’s largest screens,” Francois Mantello, chairman and CEO of 3D Entertainment, said.

“This also marks a new step for our company, as it is the first time we have acquired the rights to a film produced primarily by a third party, thus reaffirming our commitment to becoming a prominent distributor in the IMAX theatre industry.”

“We are extremely pleased to have 3D Entertainment join us as a partner in this one-of-a-kind adventure,” Vuong and Chapalain said. “Sea Rex brings to life this fascinating yet little-known underwater world which was home to over 400 marine species including the film’s star, the 40-foot long Mosasaur, one of the largest and deadliest marine predators Earth has ever known.”

3D Entertainment’s theatrical sales and marketing units will distribute Sea Rex to IMAX Theatres in 3D and 2D formats. The film will open across Europe and Asia after the US launch.
