Writer, UK Stars Of Tomorrow 2010
A graduate of the Vancouver Film School, Claire Wilson’s debut screenplay Back2Jack (working title) is already winning her fans in the UK film industry. A coming-of-age tale about teenagers dealing with suicide in a small British town, it showcases Wilson’s skill at writing dialogue and her commercial but edgy instincts. “She’s an instinctive writer who doesn’t slap contrivances onto her stories,” says Lee Magiday of Element Pictures which is producing the script. This versatile writer is also developing gritty TV crime series The Programme for La Plante Productions about a murder witnessed by people on different sides of the social divide. Class and identity are also at the centre of Tony Two Lives, a comedy drama she is writing with Gabriel Bisset-Smith about a working-class boy who discovers his father is a millionaire and ends up with two competing lives. “I’m interested in showing a different side to Britain,” says Wilson, “the side I’m familiar with which rarely gets told.”
