Re-energised Dutch distributor A-Film has snapped up a four film package from London-based HanWay Films.
The films acquired are Harry Brown starring Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer, Sam Taylor-Wood's Nowhere Boy about the young John Lennon, Christine Jeff's Sunshine Cleaning starring Amy Adams and Emily Blunt, and Jon Amiel's Charles Darwin project, Creation.
A-Film has also pounced on Mandate's Five Killers, the Ashton Kutcher vehicle about an assassin who quits the killing business when he meets the girl of his dreams but then discovers that a hit has been put on him.
These acquisitions follow on from the announcement at the beginning of the market that A-Film had signed on as the Benelux partner in an output deal with Relativity Media.
With the Relativity deal in place and a supply of major films guaranteed, A-Film has been relatively cautious in its buying strategy at AFM. 'We haven't spent a huge amount,' said A-Film managing director Wilco Wolfers. Like other leading Benelux buyers, Wolfers was complaining about the 'outrageous' prices being asked for Benelux rights.
