Aan Ja (Over There) by Iranian director Abdolreza Kahani received the Golden Alexander and $47,000 (Euros 37,000) at the 49th Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
Romanian production Pescuit Sportiv (Hooked) by Adrian Sitaru was awarded the Special Jury Prize, the Silver Alexander and $28,000 (Euros 22,000).
Argentinian Celina Murga was named best director for Una Semana Solos (A Week Alone).
Matthew Newton received the Best Screenplay Award for Three Blind Mice, his second outing as a director.
Romanians Ioanna Flora and Maria Dinulescu were named best actresses in Circuit Sportiv.
Best actor was awarded to the Philipinnos Sid Lucero and Emilio Garcia in Selda (The Inmate) by Ellen Ramos and Paolo Villaluna.
The Fipresci awards were for Voy a Explotar (I'm Gonna Explode), by Gerardo Naranjo (Mexico) and Athanassia by Panos Karkanevatos (Greece).
Among the films which received side awards, totalling 100,000 euro, were: Of Time and the City by Terence Davies (United Kingdom); Teza, by Haile Gerima, (Ethiopia); Le Bruit des Gens Autour (Sunny Spells), by Diasteme, (France); Turneja (Te Tour) by Goran Markovic, (Serbia); Without, by Alexander Avranas, (Greece); Firaaq by Nandita Das, (India); and Snijeg (Snow), by Aida Begic, (Bosnia & Herzegovina).
