Mumbai-based Adlabs Films, part of Reliance ASA Group, has changed its name to Reliance MediaWorks in a move aimed at reflecting its recent growth and expansion.

The company’s original name was derived from its initial business as a film processing lab but, following its acquisition by Reliance in 2005, it has developed into exhibition, film and media services and TV software.

The division operates Big Cinemas, India’s largest cinema chain with 468 screens including in India, the US, Malaysia and the Netherlands, and a Los Angeles-based digital restoration facility, Lowry Digital.

Anil Arjun, chief executive of Reliance MediaWorks, said: “The name more accurately reflects our identity as a diversified film and media services company with a global presence and enables us to draw upon the international recognition of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group brand.”
