Danish animation studio A.Film has appointed Henrik Edeltoft as managing director. He replaces Anders Mastrup who will now focus on the company's international development following the worldwide sales and local box office success of its latest project Help! I'm a Fish.
Edeltoft recently worked for Scandinavian major Egmont which owns 50% of A.Film. "I have worked closely with Henrik for some time now, and he was the obvious choice when I started to look for somebody to take care of the company on a daily basis," Mastrup said.
"It gives me the freedom to travel and focus on the financing of new projects, which I will then executive produce," Mastrup continued. "We plan to expand the activities in our studio in Estonia, so in the future we might not have to do so much sub-contracting on our big projects."
Help! I'm a Fish, which is handled internationally by UK-based Hanway, has sold to some 50 countries since its premiere in Cannes. It has also grossed $1.25m in its native Denmark after only three weeks on release, despite opening alongside Chicken Run.
New projects on A.Film's busy slate include the feature Troll Story, based on the popular TV series Troll Tales, and TV series Monkey King and Things You Think.
