Universal Pictures and its specialist arm Focus Features areteaming up to distribute Stratus Films' romantic comedy Prime, which is set to go into production inthe autumn and stars Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep.
Universal will release Prime in the US, Focus is handling international sales, anarrangement mirroring that for the Weitz brothers' Synergy
In Prime,Bullock plays a thirtysomething professional who visits a therapist (Streep)after splitting up with her husband and ends up falling for the therapist'sson.
Prime isdue to be released next year and was written and will be directed by BenYounger (Boiler Room),produced by Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd and executive produced by Stratuspartners Bob Yari and Mark Gordon.
"We are really excited by this project and it's great tohave Focus on board," Yari said. "Prime combines great comedic writing and avery talented young director with a really, really strong cast. Having bothSandra Bullock and Meryl Streep in the same film is about as good as itgets."
Stratus Films is currently in production on the long-gestatingBruce Willis action thriller Hostage and in pre-production on the thriller Matador, which stars Pierce Brosnan.
It is also inpost-production on the drama Winter Passing, which stars Ed Harris, Zooey Deschaneland Will Ferrell and was written and directed by playwright Adam Rapp. FocusFeatures has worldwide rights to the feature and is a production partner withStratus on the picture.
