Organisers at the 56th San Francisco International Film Festival announced the narrative and documentary competition sections on Tuesday [5], featuring such work as Tall As The Baobab Tree and A River Changes Course.
The New Directors Prize (Narrative Feature) Competition entries are:
Adrian Saba’s mystery drama The Cleaner (Peru); Maria Florencia Alvarez’s coming-of-age tale Habi, The Foreigner (Argentina, Brazil); Song Fang’s family drama Memories Look At Me (China); Yang Yonghi’s drama Our Homeland (Japan); Belmin Soylemez fantastical drama Present Tense (Turkey); William Vega’s wartime drama La Sirga (Colombia, France, Mexico); Ramon Zurcher’s Kafkaesque The Strange Little Cat (Germany); Jeremy Teicher’s family drama Tall As The Baobab Tree (US, Senegal); Marcelo Lordello’s coming-of-age drama They’ll Come Back (Brazil); and the semi-autobiographical Youth (France) from Louis Malle’s daughter Justine Malle.
The Golden Gate Awards Documentary Feature Competition entries are:
Martha Shane and Lana Wilson’s Sundance entry After Tiller (USA, pictured); PJ Raval’s Before You Know It (USA); Mika Mattila’s Chimeras (Finland); Zachary Heinzerling’s Cutie And The Boxer (USA); Roger Ross Williams’ God Loves Uganda (USA, Uganda); Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio’s Inori (Japan); Dan Krauss’ The Kill Team (USA); Jason Osder’s Let The Fire Burn (USA); Kaspar Astrup Schroeder’s Rent A Family Inc. (Denmark); Kalyanee Mam’s A River Changes Course (Cambodia, USA); Oskar Alegria’s The Search For Emak Bakia (Spain); and Ilian Metev’s Sofia’s Last Ambulance (Germany, Bulgaria and Croatia).
The festival is scheduled to run from Apr 25-May 9.
