Estonia’s Allfilm will co-produce Petri Kotwica’s third feature Rat King, which received the Screen International Best Pitch Award at Tallinn’s Baltic Event Co-Production Market last December.
The Finnish-language thriller is set to shoot in Estonia from May 2 and will star Julius Lavonen and Max Ovaska. Producer Kai Nordberg of Making Movies Oy said it is hoped the film will be ready for an international premiere at the 2011 Berlinale.
Finnish director Kotwica’s last film Black Ice (Musta Jaa) premiered in competition in Berlin in 2008 and was handled internationally by Bavaria Film International.
Nordberg added that Making Movies will have a second production, the children’s adventure film Tigerheart, which will begin shooting in August. It will be directed by Aku Louhimies, one of Finland’s most successful local directors. Belgium-based Sagafilm will be a partner on the project, responsible for visual effects.
