Leading distributor Alta Films has taken Spanish theatrical rights to Oskar Santos’ hotly anticipated feature debut El Mal Ajeno, produced by director Alejandro Amenabar (pictured).
Based on a script by leading Spanish film maker Daniel Sanchez Arevalo, El Mal Ajeno tells the story of a doctor, played by Eduardo Noriega, who drives one of his patients to suicide and is then the victim of a shooting. Also starring Belen Rueda, the film is currently in post-production and is set to premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival next month. It will be released in Spain on April 30.
El Mal Ajeno is produced by Amenabar’s company Himenoptero, alongside his long term collaborators, Mod Producciones, and Spanish broadcasters Telecinco, in collaboration with Canal +.
Simon De Santiago, producer at Mod Producciones, said: “This is the first time Amenabar is presenting a new director, but we have every confidence in Oskar’s movie.”
