Mary Harron's American Psycho has been chosen to open the 33rd edition of the International Film Festival of Catalonia (Sitges 2000), in Sitges, Spain, which takes place October 4-14.
The film, which screens in competition in the Fantasy section of the festival, arrives at Sitges after appearing at Sundance, the Berlin film festival and the German Fantasy Filmfest. Columbia TriStar is handling distribution of the film in Spain.
Sitges 2000 will also include an animation section; "Seven Chances", featuring seven independent films selected by critics; a retrospective section, this year dedicated to the role of the hero in American cinema; a section dedicated to Spanish director Segundo de Chomon; a panorama of the latest Catalonian productions and "Resistencies", a section developed with the French "Festival des Resistances" at Tarascon sur Ariege.
