Director Michael Apted is in discussions with MilkshakeFilms to direct the final film in their Goal! trilogy.
During a Cannes event with financiers Scion Films,producer Mike Jefferies announced that negotiations are ongoing with Apted for Goal!3.
The film will be Apted's second football project in arow. He's currently shooting an as-yet-untitled football documentary for Patheand Reason, which will finish its shoot in Germany during next month's WorldCup.
Goal! 3 is alsoplanning to start its shoot during the World Cup, thanks to its deal with FIFA.It will mark the first feature to get exclusive film footage with rights to allWorld Cup matches.
The final film in the trilogy will see Santiago Munezfulfill his lifelong ambition of playing in the World Cup, while his youngerbrothers train at the David Beckham soccer academy in Los Angeles.
Apted, who has directed films including CoalMiner's Daughter, The World Is Not Enough andGorillas In The Mist, is president of the Directors Guildof America and a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of MotionPicture Arts and Sciences.
