Shooting has started on the latest feature-length drama from Tony-award winning Irish playwright and director Conor McPherson.

Based on a supernatural love story by Wexford writer Billy Roche, the film stars Aidan Quinn, Ciaran Hinds and Iben Hjejle. Rob Walpole of Treasure Entertainment is producing.

Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning costume designer Consolata Boyle and award-winning production designer Mark Geraghty are working behind the camera.

The film follows Michael (Hinds), who is mourning the death of his wife and begins visiting supernatural writer Lena Morelle (Hjejle). He finds himself competing with Nicholas Holden (Quinn) for her attention.

The Eclipse has been co-commissioned and co-funded by RTÉ, Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (BSÉ / IFB) and their Regional Support Fund, and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland. It will be shown on RTÉ Television in 2009.
