LAFCA honours Gravity, Her

Gravity and Her tied for best picture of the year in the critics group’s 2013 poll, while Alfonso Cuaron was named best director and Spike Jonze came runner-up.

In the acting stakes, Bruce Dern won for Paramount’s Nebraska and Cate Blanchett took the prize for SPC’s Blue Jasmine.

Palme d’Or winner Blue Is The Warmest Color was named best foreign-language film, while Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell maintained its early awards season momentum with another documentary category triumph.

“This year has seen one of the closest votes in the history of our group, as evidenced by the unprecedented number of ties in major categories”, said LAFCA president Stephen Farber.

“The top contenders were often separated by one or two votes, and several other films were very close behind them. I think this testifies to the strong number of memorable films this year, including enterprising big studio offerings, as well as independent and foreign films.”

The 39th annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association awards ceremony will take place on January 11 2014 at the InterContinental, Los Angeles.

As previously announced, Richard Lester will receive the 2013 Career Achievement Award.
