Web and mobile video content platform Babelgum and documentary specialists Films Transit have struck a deal to present ten independent world-cinema documentaries as exclusive features on Babelgum’s online and mobile platforms.
Titles include The American Nightmare, Grass, Manufacturing Consent, An Ordinary Family, Battle for Our Minds, Bride Kidnapping in Kyrgyzstan, Satellite Queens, China’s Sexual Revolution, Crimes of Honour, and The Last Victory.
Beginning today, one film will be made available each month for free video streaming on Babelgum’s website. After each of these exclusive one-month runs, films will remain on the Babelgum platform non-exclusively for two years.
The deal was negotiated by Andreas Lemos, Director of Acquisitions for Babelgum, and Jan Rofekamp, on behalf of Films Transit.
Rofekamp said: “Although many of these titles have enjoyed success at international film festivals and on television, the global exposure ensures that these socially relevant films will continue to build an audience outside traditional distribution channels.”
Karol Martesko-Fenster, General Manager and SVP of Babelgum’s Film Division, added: “We are thrilled about our partnership with Films Transit. This deal significantly strengthens Babelgum’s international profile and reaffirms our commitment to being the cutting-edge online and mobile destination for independent film.It is important to us to feature filmmakers from every corner of the globe, and Films Transit’s selection of award-winners and festival favourites perfectly complements our curatorial taste.”
