British actor to receive British Academy Fellowship.
BAFTA will present Christopher Lee with the British Academy Fellowship at the Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House on Feb 13.
The annual Fellowship is the highest accolade bestowed upon an individual. Previously Fellows include Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Sean Connery, Elizabeth Taylor, Julie Christie, Stanley Kubrick, Anthony Hopkins, Terry Gilliam, Judi Dench and last year’s recipient Vanessa Redgrave.
Tim Corrie, Chair of the Academy said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Academy is recognising Sir Christopher Lee. He has entertained me over many years and is a bastion of British filmmaking around the globe.”
Lee added: “It’s a very unexpected but very great honour to find myself in such distinguished company to receive the fellowship.”
Lee has appeared in almost 200 films, including Dracula,The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, The Wicker Man, The Man With The Golden Gun, Jinnah, Corpse Bride and The Lord of The Rings trilogy. He will soon appear in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret.
