Eran Kolirin's The Band's Visit, about an Egyptian police band which visits Israel for a performance, made a cross-cultural foray in the other direction when the Israeli production won best film at Turkey 's 3rd International Eurasia Film Festival on Sunday night.

The film had also picked up the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix at the 20th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) just a few hours before on the same evening.

Meanwhile, Abdellatatif Kechiche was named best director for The Secret Of The Grain at the Eurasia fest, which ran concurrently to the 44th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.

A special jury award was given to You, The Living by Roy Andersson while the first NETPAC award in Turkey was shared between Semih Kaplanoglu's Egg and Philippe Aractingi's Under The Bombs which also picked up the Critics Awards.

Just three local films took almost all the awards in the national competition of the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Best film went to Egg (which was in both Eurasia and national competition) which emerged as the biggest winner with six awards, including best script, cinematography, costume, art direction and best newcomer for Saadet Isil Aksoy.

Writer-director Kaplanoglu was not on hand to receive the awards, as he is currently shooting the second part of the Honey-Milk-Egg trilogy.

Fatih Akin was on hand to receive the best director award for Edge Of Heaven which also took special jury recognition, best supporting actor for Tuncel Kurtiz, best supporting actress for Nursel Kose and best editing.

Abdullah Oguz's Bliss won both best actor for Murat Han and best actress for Ozgu Namal in addition to best sound and best music.

Actress Hanna Schygulla (who appeared in Edge Of Heaven) and Shekhar Kapur (who attended the closing film Elizabeth: The Golden Age the night before) were given the honour award during the award ceremony at the Talya Convention Centre.

Over 140 films were screened over 10 days at three venues, Cinebonus, Prestige and Ataturk Cultural Centre (AKM) where the gala screenings, a new feature of the festival, were held. The organisers said cinema attendance reached 10,170 admissions.

Apart from the high-profile visit of Francis Ford Coppola, many international filmmakers attended the festival, including Sophie Marceau and her Trivial actor Christopher Lambert, Nicolas Roeg and his Puffball actress Miranda Richardson, Mabel Cheung, Alex Law and Kenneth Bi from Hong Kong, Japan's Naomi Kawase and Kasayuki Suo and Australian director Tony Ayres.
