Barry Dale Johnson has joined Fox Searchlight effective July 23 as vice-president of national publicity and will relocate to New York.
Johnson previously worked at ID Public Relations in Los Angeles. He will report to Searchlight’s senior vice-president of publicity Diana Loomis who joined the company in 2006.
Johnson has worked in the entertainment industry for more than ten years and for several years has worked as an awards consultant for Fox Searchlight for several seasons.
He was at ID-PR for four years, in which time he was part of the team that developed and oversaw awards campaigns for Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler and Juno, as well as theatrical release and DVD campaigns for Summit Entertainment’s Twilight, New Moon, and The Brothers Bloom.
“Barry’s knowledge of film and film marketing make him an extraordinary addition to our already stellar publicity team –we’re thrilled that he’s joining Searchlight at such an exciting time,” Loomis said.
“I have long admired the films of Fox Searchlight, and have enjoyed collaborating with their team these past few awards seasons,” Johnson said. “I look forward to working closely with Diana and the Searchlight team, continuing the relationship in-house.”
Searchlight’s New York team includes national publicity managers Judith Woloshen and Kacey Hagler. Upcoming Searchlight releases include Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut Whip It, Mira Nair’s Amelia, and Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox.
