Chris Kraus directs the Baltic-set drama set on the eve of World War I.
Bavaria Film International has taken on worldwide distribution rights to The Poll Diaries (Poll), which will have its world premiere as a Special Presentation in Toronto.
Chris Kraus directs the follow-up to his festival and Lola award-winning Four Minutes (2006).
The Poll Diaries is about a 14-year-old German girl who returns to her home on the Baltic coast in the summer of 1914, when the area was shared by Germans, Russians and Estonians. Her domineering scientist father would disapprove of her decision to care for a wounded Estonian anarchist. The cast features Paula Beer, Edgar Selge, Tabet Tuisk, Jeanette Hain and Richy Müller.
“Four Minutes caught my eye like those of so many others when it started its incredible international career. It was the promise of an outstanding artistic voice that I see now fulfilled,” said Bavaria head Thorsten Ritter. “The Poll Diaries is rich and accomplished on so many artistic levels. I am thrilled to be working with such an immensely gifted director and his passionate producers Meike and Alexandra Kordes.”
The Poll Diaries is produced by Kordes & Kordes Film (Germany) with DOR Film (Austria) and Amrion (Estonia), in collaboration with SWR, BR, Degeto, ÖRF and arte. The project also has support from Eurimages, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, DFFF, OFI, Wiener Film Fonds, BKM, Filmstiftung NRW, and MFG Baden-Württemberg.
