In the newly created position, Bell will oversee worldwide technology strategy and advise on all related technical, business, legal and regulatory matters.
In addition he will explore, evaluate and set requirements for the development of digital media creation and distribution technologies. He reports to president of marketing, distribution and home entertainment Rob Moore.
Bell previously served at IBM in a variety of technology roles from 1995 to 2000, and before that served as senior scientist at Exxon Mobile Corporate Research.
