Berlin competition to include world premieres from Mendoza, Edwin

The Berlinale has announced the first five films in Competition, including the world premiere of Brillante Mendoza’s Captive starring Isabelle Huppert.

The festival will host international premieres, out of competition, of awards-season contenders Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Flowers of War.

The five Competition section titles are:

Captive by Brillante Mendoza (France/Philippines/Germany/UK) [world premiere]

Dictado (Childish Games) by Antonio Chavarrias (Spain) [world premiere]

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close by Stephen Daldry (US) [out of competition] 

The Flowers Of War (Jin líng Shí San Chai) by Zhang Yimou (China) [out of competition]

Postcards From The Zoo (Kebun binatang) by Edwin (Indonesia/Germany/Hong Kong/China) [world premiere]

Also, the festival has confirmed five films for the Berlinale Special. Those will include the four-part documentary series Death Row by Werner Herzog (his single feature about death row, Into The Abyss, premiered in Toronto). Also, Kevin Macdonald will offer the world premiere of his Bob Marley documentary Marley.
