Celebrating Jamaican independence with Rockers.
The Berlin Film Society is planning its first international event, to be held in London.
The Society will celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence with a screening of 1978 classic Rockers. Ted Bafaloukos’ film is about Rastafarian culture in Kingston, Jamaica, and how Leroy ‘Horsemouth’ Wallace tries to make it as a record distributor and musician.
The London screening is planned for Aug 6 at Cafe 1001 on Brick Lane, followed by a performance by reggae band The Drop. (The Berlin screening follows on Aug 10.)
The Society was set up during the 2012 Berlinale to host monthly screenings and pop-up film events.
