The Berlinale has finished the programme for its Generation section for children and teens.
There are a total of 58 shorts and features from 32 countries across the Kplus and 14plus competitions. The programme includes 12 debut features.
Highlights in 14plus include world premieres of Simon Aboud’s UK feature Comes A Bright Day, set against a jewellery heist and starring Craig Roberts [pictured], Imogen Poots, Kevin McKidd, and Timothy Spall; documentary Maori Boy Genius by Pietra Brettkelly; and Robert Sarkies’ friendship story Two Little Boys with a cast including Bret McKenzie.
In Kplus, world premieres include Arcadia, a US road trip family starring Ryan Simpkins and John Hawkes; and Martin Hogdahl’s The Ice Dragon, about a boy sent to a youth home in northern Sweden.
Eleven children from Berlin between the ages of eleven and 14 as well as seven young adults have been invited to be on the Children’s and Youth Juries. They will award Crystal Bears for the best short and feature-length films.
The five members of the Generation International Jury are Scottish filmmaker Mark Cousins, Rasmus Horskjær from the Danish Film Institute, German filmmaker and distributor Frieder Schlaich, Peruvian filmmaker Marite Ugas, and Asia Pacific Screen Academy artistic director Maxine Williamson.
