The Berlinale has selected 29 films for its Shorts section, including a special presentation of Serbian director Zelimir Zilnik's 1975 nine-minute film Inventory about housing speculation and foreigners living in Munich.
A jury composed of Romanian producer Ada Solomon, French-actor director Marc Barbe and German actress Laura Tonke will have the task of choosing the winners of the Golden and Silver Bears, the DAAD Award and the Prix UIP.
The winners of the Bears will be chosen from 11 competition titles including K by the UK's Piers Thompson, Tommy by Sweden's Tora Martens, and Haze by Singapore's Anthony Chen.
Meanwhile, all of the 29 films - except for Inventory - will be competing for the DAAD Short Film Award, while European productions will also qualify for consideration for the Prix UIP for Best European Short Film.
Commenting on this year's selection, Berlinale Shorts' curator Maike Mia Hoehne observed that 'the films are captivating in their simplicity and strength. They give us an inkling of the kind of new filmmakers coming our way and how they aspire to tell stories in new dramatic compositions with imageries all their own.'
