With just under two months before Berlin’s European Film Market (EFM) opens its doors on February 10, 2011, the organizers are already reporting that exhibition space in the EFM venues at the Martin-Gropius-Bau and the Marriott Hotel are “nearly booked solid” with companies from almost 50 countries set to attend.
The EFM’s 2011 edition will see market screenings presented in 33 state-of-the-art cinemas, with “increased opportunities” being offered for films to screen in 3D following the successful launch of the EFM’s market programme of 3D films last year at the Astor Film Lounge on Berlin’s Kudamm.
Meanwhile, the EFM and the European Documentary Network (EDN) are to expand their joint “Meet The Docs” initiative which was established in 2009 to promote networking and exchange among buyers, sellers, directors and producers of documentaries.
Next February will see the “Meet The Docs” 60-square-meter umbrella stand in the Marriott Hotel also offering industry professionals an opportunity to screen their films and have meetings at the stand.
The EFM Mini Documentary Screenings will provide six Meet The Docs screening booths, one Meet The Docs screening room with seating for eight people and a meeting area dedicated to participantes with Doc Screening Passes.
Access to the umbrella stand and an individual consultation service by DN experts as well as attendance of the Meet The Distributors and Meet The Makers information events will be open to anyone accredited with a Berlinale festival pass or registered with the EFM.
However, the Mini Documentary Screening facilities to showcase new documentary productions will only be available for those accredited professionals who have purchased either a Daily Doc Screening Pass for €100 or a Multiple Day Doc Screening Pass for €400.
The Daily Doc Screening Pass will provide shared access to the six screening booth on a specific day, and access to the screening room can be granted if screening slots are available.
Meanwhile, the Multiple Day Doc Screening Pass will provide at least two screening slots of 90 minutes in the screening room during the market and shared access to the screening booths for the duration of the entire EFM (Feb 10-18). Subject to availability, there is a possibility that the multiple day passholders can be provided with additional slots in the screening room.
