German sales, distribution and production outfit Beta Film has acquired international film catalogues of U.S. producer and distributor Porchlight and Spain’s On Pictures/Zeta Group.
Beta has acquired the rights to 22 of On Pictures/Zeta’s theatrical films, including The Reader, Paranormal Activity, Gamer, Hotel Rwanda and Open Water 2, for the territory of Spain. Beta also acquired an option for the Spanish rights to John Cusack’s Shanghai.
The company will offer the rights of nearly 70 (mostly US) films for the first time at MIPCOM in Cannes (Oct 4-8).
Beta Film will distribute the worldwide rights to 43 Porchlight “Made for TV” movies, many of which have been aired on U.S. networks.
The Porchlight catalogue comprises TV movies with actors such as Lauren Holly, Ian Somerhalder, Nicolette Sheridan, and Tori Spelling as well as productions Best Friends (Lifetime),Deadly Season (Hallmark Channel), Role of a Lifetime (NBC) and the family programme Stardust (HBO).
