New York-based BGP Film has picked up North American rights to Gyan Correa’s The Good Road, which is India’s official entry to the foreign-language category of the Academy Awards.

Launched by former New Line executive Bill Straus, BGP is a sales agency focused on the North American market. “The Oscar submission for the film is a good opportunity to pitch it to a range of American buyers while it’s still under consideration,” said Straus. “I will start screening it for buyers immediately.”

Produced by India’s National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), The Good Road won an award for best Gujarati-language film at India’s prestigious National Film Awards in May this year.

NFDC general manager Vikramjit Roy, who is overseeing the film’s Oscar campaign, said: “This is the beginning of a journey and it’s great to have Bill and his passion on board.”

Straus said he felt the film could work with arthouse-friendly audiences in larger US cities, along with Indian diaspora audiences. “It takes us into the dark side of the human psyche but in the end reaffirms our belief in the goodness of human nature. The end is very satisfying,” Straus said.
