Indian exhibitor Big Cinemas has signed a deal with London-based alternative content provider More2Screen under which it will screen operas and classical concerts in Indian cinemas.
The first offerings from the partnership will be two productions from the UK’s Glyndebourne Festival – the operas La Cenerentola (Cinderella) and Giulio Cesare (Julius Caesar) – and a tribute concert to late tenor Luciano Pavarotti which was held in Petra, Jordan and featured singers such as Placido Domingo and Sting.
“Global awareness among Indian audiences has made them desirous for distinct international experiences,” said Big Cinemas COO Tushar Dhingra. “By screening opera at Big Cinemas we are not just providing an enriching cultural experience to our guests but also giving them a chance to enjoy opera in the best seats and at a very affordable price.”
Screenings will take place at Big Cinemas in the cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune and Kolkata from the end of June.
More2Screen has also launched alternative content in Russian cinemas through a partnership with Nevafilm.
