Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Biutiful will represent Mexico in this year’s foreign language Academy Awards race.

Roadside Attractions and Liddell Entertainment acquired US rights in late August and will open the film on limited release in the US on December 29 as a qualifying run.

Javier Bardem stars in Biutiful, which divided the critics when it premiered in Cannes. Newcomers Marciel Alvarez and Diaryatou Daff also star.
