The 15th Annual Sarasota Film Festival will open on Apr 5 with Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s Sundance premiere and orcas in captivity documentary Blackfish [pictured].
The festival is set to close on Apr 14 with Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha.
Sundance entries The Spectacular Now by James Ponsoldt and Running From Crazy by Barbara Kopple are the Centerpiece Films.
The new Spotlight series features Carols Puga’s Burma, Justin Schwarz’s The Discoverers and the world premiere of Will Slocombe’s Pasadena starring Peter Bogdanovich and Cheryl Hines.
Mariel Hemingway, whose family is the subject of Running From Crazy, will receive the festival’s third annual Impact Award on Apr 12. Lili Taylor will receive the Career Achievement in Acting Award, Kopple will collect the Director’s Award, Griffin Dunne will collect the Achievement In Acting Award for The Discoverers and Suzanne Clément will receive the World Cinema Award for her performance in narrative feature competition entry Laurence Anyways.
