The 1,800-seat cinema is the third that Blitz has opened since late 2006 when it broke into the exhibition market long monopolised by the 21 Group.
'Our first two cinemas with a combined 20 screens have captured an estimated 10% of the country's total box office,' said Blitz CEO Ananda Siregar.
He added that the company would continue to expand in 2008 with the opening of two new cinemas with 26 screens in Jakarta. One of them will have 14 screens and 2,800 seats which will become the largest in the country in terms of halls.
By 2009, Blitz aims to operate close to 100 screens nationwide when another 38 screens on four new sites are up and running.
The new multiplex at Pacific Place features unique day beds in two Gold Class halls, a first in Indonesia. Cinema-goers can fully recline or lie down on the oversized beds.
This cinema is the first located in the prime Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD). Adjacent to the Jakarta Stock Exchange, Pacific Place is an integrated complex with an upscale shopping mall, Ritz Carlton Hotel as well as luxury apartments and premium office tower.
American Gangster and August Rush opened today at the new cinema. While the 21 Group's distribution subsidiaries supply Blitz with US studio titles, Blitz acquires independent films such as August Rush through its own distribution arm Jive Entertainment.
