Beijing-based Bona Entertainment is teaming with Jackie Chan’s JC Group International and Singapore fundLM Media on action comedy Big Soldier (working title), starringChan, Wang Lee-hom and Korean singer Yoo Seung-jun.
Chinese filmmaker Ding Sheng (The Underdog Knight) is directing the $25m film, which is set in the Warring States Period (476 BC-221 BC) in China. Chan plays an old soldier who abducts Wang’s character, a young general of an enemy state, and takes him on a long journey to collect the reward.
Bona Entertainment is a subsidiary of the Bona International Film Group (BIFG). Distribution Workshop, which is majority owned by BIFG, will jointly handle international sales of Big Soldier along with JC Group International.
The Chinese-language film is currently in production in China’s Yunnan province and is scheduled for release at the end of 2009. Beijing-based Polybona Film Distribution and JC Group will distribute in mainland China.
Wang, a Chinese-American actor, previously starred in Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution. The cast of Big Soldier also features newcomer Lin Peng, who was one of the performers during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and Jackie Chan’s martial arts pupil Xu Dongmei.
LM Media is a Singapore-basedprivate media fund which invests in media and entertainment businesses in Asia.
