Walt Disney Animation Studios’ smash Frozen claimed number one spot for the second time in its run, usurping The Hobbit 2 and overpowering Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones on an estimated $20.7m.
The Disney hit stands at $297.8m in North American after seven sessions and has amassed $639.9m worldwide.
Meanwhile in a session where the top 12 gained approximately 6% on the first weekend of 2013, Paramount’s latest entry in the horror franchise, which was marketed heavily at the Latino demographic, had to make do with a number two berth after grossing $18.2m.
Nonetheless the film is on course to become a big hit given the $5m production cost. Strong word of mouth at the theatres will tee up the typical solid ancillary performance.
The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug fell to number three in its third session throufh Warner Bros and has amassed $229.6m after four weekends.
American Hustle is en route to $100m through Sony and the awards contender ranks number five on the fourth weekend on $88.7m.
Paramount’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues crossed $100m in its third weekend as $11m elevated the score to $109.2m.

Lone Survivor brought in a further $83,600 from two venues through Universal for $325,000 and expands wide this week.
