Warner Bros Pictures International executives reported on Friday [17] that The Great Gatsby grossed an estimated $5.4m on its opening day in 27 markets.

The film, which opened Cannes on Wednesday, went on release the following day in the UK, Germany, Italy, Russia and South Korea. 

The running total includes the second day in France.

Gatsby arrives in approximately 49 markets this weekend. Baz Luhrmann directed and the lead cast includes Leonard DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and Tobey Maguire.
