Tom Cruise charmed the sub-continent as Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opened on a sensational INR 26 – approximately $5m – over three days last weekend, according to local distributor Viacom 18.

Cruise and Bollywood icon Anil Kapoor, who also stars in Paramount’s fourth instalment of the action franchise, visited the Taj Mahal on Dec 4 and Mumbai on Dec 5 where they met industry professionals and mingled with fans.

Kapoor hosted a dinner on Dec 4 in honour of Cruise that was attended by Aamir Khan, Mukesh Ambani, Shekhar Kapur, Adi Godrej, Sonam Kapoor and Vinod Chopra, among others.

Ghost Protocol’s three-day opening weekend gross exceeded by 119% the INR 22 debut of Avatar. Ghost Protocol has already grossed more than $70m from last weekend’s first wave of international releases through Paramount Pictures International.
