OCTOBER 21 UPDATE: Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil ended Joker’s run of global box office dominance in an estimated $153m launch, while Warner Bros’ supervillain origins story surged past $700m worldwide.
Paramount’s Gemini Man climbed to an early $82.2m, and Sony’s Zombieland: Double Tap arrived on $5.3m in first 17 markets.

UPDATED: Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil produced a confirmed $118.1m internationally and an estimated $154.1m worldwide as China led the way on $22.6m over three days, ranking number one to finish +15% ahead of the 2014 debut by Maleficent.
Russia generated $11.1m, Mexico $7.6m, Italy $5.2m, Indonesia $4.9m, South Korea and Brazil $4.5m apiece, France $4.3m, and the UK $4.2m.
The fantasy adventure starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer ranks number one in Europe in Russia, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Israel, Middle East, and Ukraine, and second behind Joker in most other markets.
Indonesia delivered the second highest Disney live-action debut of all time, and the highest Disney live-action debut in Thailand, and the third highest in Malaysia and Taiwan. It ranks number one in Brazil, Mexico and seven other Latin American markets.
WARNER BROS PICTURES INTERNATIONAL
UPDATED: Joker added $78.6m internationally and stands at $491.3m and $738.5m worldwide. It now ranks as the fourth highest DC film of all time, and the highest in 17 markets including Italy on $23.6m, Spain on $18.8m, Russia on $25.3m, and Mexico on $36.4m.
In the third session, lead market the UK generated $6.9m for $49.7m, South Korea $3.3m for $32.9m, Brazil $4.4m for $25.6m, and Japan $4.2m for $25.3m. In the second weekend, Germany produced $7.5m for $20.4m, and France $7.2m for $19.7m.
Joker ranks number one across Europe following a 34% drop and is the third highest grossing DC film in the region, an accolade it also owns in Asia. It ranks as the fourth highest DC release in Latin America.
It: Chapter Two stands at $240.7m internationally, and The Goldfinch $4.1m.

Ang Lee’s Gemini Man starring Will Smith and Will Smith earned $33.4m from 59 markets to reach an early $82.2m. The sci-fi action thriller was powered by a $21m Chinese debut through Fosun. In the second session, Mexico produced $1.2m for $5.1m, the UK $946,000 for $4.1m, and Russia $834,000 for $4.3m. In the third, France generated $905,000 for $6m and Germany $846,000 for $5.7m. Dora And The Lost City Of Gold has grossed $54.4m.
UNIVERSAL PICTURES INTERNATIONAL
UPDATED: Abominable from DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studios added grossed $8.8m from 57 territories for a $60.8m international running total and $129.3m worldwide. The animation opened in six markets led by Finland on $250,000 and Belgium on $235,000. The UK was the top holdover on $1.3m for $4.7m after two sessions. Abominable stands at $9.5m in Russia after three, $5.8m in Mexico after four, and $3.1m in Spain after two.
Downton Abbey stands at $75.7m and $164.3m worldwide, factoring in $88.6m from North America, where the period drama became Focus Features’ biggest hit last week. It has generated $32.4m in the UK after six weekends. Yesterday stands at $74.8m, and $148.1m worldwide. German local-language musical I’ve Never Been To New York arrived in three German-speaking territories in Europe on $1.4m, earning $1.2m in Germany.
SONY PICTURES RELEASING INTERNATIONAL
UPDATED: Zombieland: Double Tap grossed $5.4m from its first 17 markets, led by the UK on $1.7m, and Australia on $1.3m. The adventure sequel starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin and opens this week in Russia, Brazil, and Mexico. The Angry Birds Movie 2 added $2.4m from 40 for $97.9m.
