Disney’s fantasy starring Angelina Jolie was expected to reach the milestone on July 2, according to executives.

This is the second Walt Disney Studios release of 2014 to cross the threshold after Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the studio’s 20th release to do so.

Maleficentis also expected to reach $400m this weekend before the July 5 debut in Japan.  

It ranks as the fourth highest grossing film of the year in North America and Jolie’s highest grossing live-action film of all time domestically, internationally and globally.

Worldwide it is the highest grossing original film of the year-to-date. Latin America has paid dividends and Mexico in particular has generated $43.2m. China has produced close to $40m.
