Bong Joon Ho’s South Korean Oscar hopeful and Palme d’Or winner Parasite has crossed $100m at the international box office.
According to data from box office tracker ComScore, the dark comedy with a fierce social conscience added $860,000 over the weekend and stands at $101.8m through CJ Entertainment from 11 territories.
A further $3.5m worldwide elevated the running total to $109.3m. Much of that global gross came from Neon in North America, where the film ranks 12th and a $2.6m weekend haul boosted the tally to $7.5m after four sessions.
Song Kang Ho, Lee Sun Kyun, Cho Yeo Jeong, Choi Woo Shik, and Park So Dam star in the acclaimed film about a resourceful family barely making ends, a wealthy family, and a “home invasion”.
Kwak Sin Ae and Moon Yang Kwon produced, and Bong co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin Won.
