BOX OFFICE: Paramount soars again as Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation reached $500m worldwide. Meanwhile, Universal executives celebrate $1bn milestone for Jurassic World
PARAMOUNT PICTURES INTERNATIONAL
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation crossed $500m worldwide $9.4m from 64 international territories boosted the tally outside North America to $328.7m with China to open on Tuesday.
Tom Cruise and friends added $1.4m in France for $18.4m after four weekends and grossed $1.3m in Japan for $36.1m after five.
The Germany tally reached $12.4m after five, the UK $31.2m after six and Brazil $8.8m after four.
Terminator: Genisys brought in a further $11.5m from seven markets to reach $346.3m and has soared past $100m in China, where it stayed top as $11.4m boosted the tally to $108.8m.
FOX INTERNATIONAL
Hitman: Agent 47 grossed $11.4m from 71 markets and opened top in Russia including previews on $2.4m and second in Venezuela on $1.2m. It opened in Argentina at number four on $196,000.
Fantastic Four added $3.5m from 49 to cross $100m and reach $101.2m, while Paper Towns added $2.2m from 18 for $50.4m and arrived in Italy in second place on $1.5m.
El Clan, which just screened in Venice, stayed top in its native Argentina for the fourth weekend in a row as $1.5m boosted the running total to $13.7m.
Chilean smash The 33 meanwhile added $1.3m from nine for $8.7m and has amassed $4.7m in Chile after five weekends in pole position and ranks as Fox’s fifth biggest release of all time there.
WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES INTERNATIONAL
Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man grossed $10m for $210.5m, opening in South Korea on an excellent $9.2m in the biggest debut for a Marvel Cinematic Universe first instalment.
Ant-Man stands at $25.3m in the UK, $15.1m in Mexico, $13.2m in France, $12.6m in Brazil and $11.5m in Russia and Australia and $11.1m in Taiwan.
Pixar’s Inside Out grossed $7.1m for $386.2m and reached $734m worldwide, making it Pixar’s fourth biggest release. The UK has generated $55.6m, South Korea $32.8m, Japan $31.8m, Mexico $31.1m and France $27.7m.
ASIA ROUND-UP
Dev Bengal’s Indian film The Dead End grossed $9.9m for a $41m running total, while Veteran from South Korea added $4.7m for $79m.
WARNER BROS PICTURES INTERNATIONAL
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. expanded into a further 18 markets and grossed $6.2m from 64 territories overall to push the dial to $46m.
The spy thriller opened at number two in on $1m, Italy on $598,000, Brazil on $526,000 and Singapore at number two on $497,000.
The UK has generated $9.3m, Russia $8.3m, Australia $3.1m and Spain $2.6m.
Vacation grossed $4.3m in 55 for $34.1m and stands at $4.4m in Mexico, $3.4m in Russia, $3m in Italy, $2.9m in Australia, $2.6m in the UK and $2.1m in Spain. The comedy arrives in Brazil this week.
UNIVERSAL PICTURES INTERNATIONAL
Jurassic World – only the fourth film to reach $1bn internationally – grossed $2.7m in 29 territories to stand at $1.003bn, pushing the global tally to $1.651bn. The film added $2.3m in Japan for $63.1m after five weekends.
Universal and Illumination’s Minions brought in a further $10.9m in 57 for $714.2m and stands at $1.044bn worldwide with China to come on September 13.
Minions is projected to overtake Fox’s Ice Age: Continental Drift’s $718m final haul this week to become the second biggest animation ever internationally behind Disney’s Frozen on $880m and will pass the $1.064bn Toy Story 2 global score to become the second biggest, again behind Frozen on $1.28bn.
Minionsstayed top in Italy on $5.7m for $17.7m after two sessions and opened top in Turkey on $866,000 for Universal’s biggest animation launch and the industry’s second biggest behind Ice Age: Continental Drift.
Straight Outta Compton ranks number one in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Netherlands after a $7.9m weekend in 13 propelled the early haul to $18.1m and the worldwide tally to $168.3m.
The NWZ biopic held at number one in its second weekend in the UK on $2.1m for $8.8m and opened in Australia on $3.3m and New Zealand on $369,000. It stayed top in Germany on $1.3m for $3.7m.
Ted 2 used a $4.7m haul from 45 territories to climb to $120m and crossed $200m worldwide as the running total settled on $201.3m.
Trainwreck grossed $1.2m in 35 for $26.1m, pushing the global tally to $107.5m.
Shaun The Sheep, an acquisition for Spain and Latin America, opened in eight territories in Latin America and added $975,000 for an early Universal total of $4.4m.
EUROPACORP
Action thriller The Transporter Refueled grossed $4m for an early $4.5m international running total.
SONY PICTURES RELEASING INTERNATIONAL
Pixels took $3.2m from 75 markets for $120.7m and has amassed $11.4m in the UK after four weekends and $9.3m in Germany after six.
Ricki & The Flash ventured into 35 new markets and took $3.2m from 39 overall as the early tally climbed to $5.4m. The film opened in Germany on $620,000 including previews and arrived in the IK on $370,000. This week sees debuts in Mexico, Russia and Italy.
