Croatian film producer Branko Lustig is to receive the honorary heart of Sarajevo award at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival.
The award celebrates his fifty year film career, which featured two Oscar wins for Schindler’s list and Gladiator. Other producing credits have included The Peacemaker, and further collaborations with Ridley Scott including Hannibal, Black Hawk Down and American Gangster .
Lustig’s contribution to film was described by the festival as being ‘proof that talent, hard work, professionalism and dedication can erase any and all geographic or national barriers’.
After 20 years in Los Angeles, Lustig returned to his native Croatia where he was chosen to be President of the Jewish Film Festival. In 2008 he gave an introductory lecture at the 2nd Sarajevo Talent Campus.
Lustig will receive the award, which honours individuals for their extraordinary contribution to the promotion and advancement of film, at the 18th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival, which takes place July 6 – 14.
Previous recipients include actress and director Angelina Jolie, director Jafar Panahi and director of the Berlin Film Festival Dieter Kosslick.
